WHY I BECAME A THERAPIST....

I became a therapist because I have personally faced the profound challenges of mental health since my early youth and have spent the past 13 years in therapy myself. As a Persian American with immigrant parents, I also experienced discrimination that contributed to my mental health struggles. Mental illness runs in my family, and watching both my own struggles and those of my loved ones has deeply moved me.
 

These experiences have inspired me to dedicate my career to helping individuals and their families find peace and healing through therapy. I specialize in working with minority groups, trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. It is my heartfelt mission to provide the same understanding and support that made a difference in my life, fostering resilience and well-being for everyone who walks through my door.

What does starting therapy look like?

If you are interested in working with me, please call us at 949-329-5233 or fill in the contact form below and a representative from our office will get back to you to see if I would be a good fit for your needs. 


If it is deemed we are a good fit, you will receive your intake documents through your email to be completed electronically in the client portal of our electronic health record. There will be about 6-8 pages to sign in order to begin services, including informed consent forms, intake questionnaires, demographic questionnaires, and credit card form, etc. The exact forms will depend on the treatment service and the need for counseling. 


What can I expect in a first session? 

During the first session, I will cover the practice policies and go over your intake questionnaires to ensure we have a good grasp for establishing treatment goals. The first session will be used to gather more information about yourself (or your relationship with your partner), your relationship with the problem at hand, and establishing clearly defined goals for treatment, as well as establish therapeutic rapport to ensure a comfortable space for your continued growth in treatment.

  • Associate Marriage and Family Therapist registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the state of California, supervised by Melanie Gonzalez, PsyD, LMFT 

  • Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University

  • Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT)

  •  Experience working with Autism, Anxiety, ADHD, Mood Disorders & Trauma

  • LGBTQIA+ & Transgender Affirmative Care Trained

  • Relationships- BIPOC, Interracial/Intercultural, LGBT+, Ethical-Non-Monogamy, & Traditional Relationships

How do I help you reach your goals? 
In therapy, I take a holistic approach, which means I consider the whole
person—mind, body, emotions, and spiritual well-being—in our work together. I primarily
use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you understand and navigate your
thoughts, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) to explore and process your emotions
as they arise in your body. On occasion, I will also teach you skills from Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness activities to help you regulate your emotions and cope with distress more effectively. 

I believe in the power of the mind-body-spirit connection, which means I pay
attention to how your emotions show up in your body and spirit. During our sessions, I'll
often check in with you about how you're feeling physically, emotionally, and spiritually,
as this can give us important clues about what's going on holistically. By incorporating
these approaches, my goal is to provide you with a well-rounded toolkit for addressing your challenges and promoting your overall well-being.

In my work with couples, I incorporate Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy
(EFCT) to deepen understanding and connection between partners. This entails creating a safe, nurturing environment where partners feel comfortable expressing their emotions openly and without fear of judgment. Through gentle guidance, I assist couples in delving into the core emotions that underlie their interactions and conflicts.
Together, we explore patterns of communication and attachment, seeking to develop new relational approaches that foster empathy and closeness. By addressing emotional
needs and vulnerabilities within the relationship, couples can cultivate stronger bonds and forge a more fulfilling partnership!
